Fort Bend County, Texas, a diverse and rapidly growing county located in the southeastern part of the state, is home to nearly 900,000 residents.
Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office (FBCSO) supports a specialized Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) unit that seeks to assist those in mental health crisis with accessing appropriate care by providing interventions to divert them from emergency rooms or incarceration when feasible.
Fort Bend Behavioral Health Services partners with FBCSO and the Texana Center, along with other area mental health professionals, facilities, and service providers, to support the Crisis Response and Intervention Project. Cohort 2022.
Program Goals
With funding from the grant, the Crisis Response and Intervention Project intends to use evidence-based best practices to enable alternative treatments and interventions that promote equitable outcomes and effectively engage the community. Additional goals include:
- Law enforcement and mental health co-response efforts
- CIT Support Training for Crisis Counselor call-takers
- CIT Support Training for Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Supervisors, 911 call-takers, and embedded mental health professionals
- CIT Coordinator Training for select CIT personnel
