Yurok Tribe, California

One of the few tribes in California who have remained on their ancestral lands, the Yurok Indian Reservation is a Native American reservation for the Yurok people located in parts of Del Norte and Humboldt counties on a 44-mile span along the Klamath River.

The Yurok Reservation will use FY24 PACT funding to enhance and expand Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training and foster greater collaboration between local law enforcement and behavioral health agencies. This initiative will better serve Yurok Tribal members and individuals across both counties experiencing behavioral health crises. YTP will implement the CIT Memphis Model and, when capacity allows, the Co-Response model to strengthen crisis response services in both counties. Additionally, YTP will continue offering 40-hour CIT training courses for all law enforcement agencies within these counties. This program will significantly improve outcomes for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises when interacting with law enforcement. Cohort 2024.

“People with mental health disorders are often highly stigmatized, so by bringing awareness to these issues and increasing knowledge and skills among law enforcement officers, we’re better able to serve that population.” (KRCR ABC7, July 31, 2024)
