Hyattsville is a city in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and a close, urban suburb of Washington, D.C. with a population of about 21,000.
The Hyattsville Police Department (HPD) seeks to add to the agency’s existing behavioral health support efforts by employing one full-time and one part-time mental health clinician to respond to behavioral health crisis calls and meet CIT-certified officers already on the scene. HPD operates a volunteer model for officers to be CIT trained. Cohort 2021.
Program Goals
The grant funding allows HPD to add a vehicle to its fleet for clinicians to drive and, when needed, to transport non-violent individuals. HPD also intends to use funding to offer additional CIT training.
