Nevada County, California, located in the Sierra Nevada, boasts a population of nearly 102,000 residents.
Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) seeks to build on the success of its original Mobile Crisis Team (MCT) established in 2020, to include a second team. Each MCT consists of one deputy sheriff and one therapist to respond to calls related to mental health, substance use disorders, or homelessness to de-escalate critical incidents. Cohort 2021.
Program Goals
Through funding from the grant, the additional MCT seeks to achieve the following:
- Reduce rates of arrest and incarceration
- Coordinate referrals to services as appropriate, including the Crisis Stabilization Unit at the hospital, Homeless Outreach and Medical Engagement (HOME) Team, and Nevada County Behavioral Health

Through years of service in our community, I have identified a gap between the services of local government and those in crisis. Our Mobile Crisis Team will be tailored to pair the specific needs of our community with appropriate resources – whether someone is in crisis or through preventative, proactive monitoring.
