Marshalltown is the city seat of Iowa’s Marshall County with a population of about 28,000.

The Marshalltown Police and Community Team (MPACT) operates as a mobile crisis unit that responds to non-emergency, non-criminal police calls involving mental health conditions, family conflict, substance use disorders, and/or emotional/behavioral situations. MPACT’s Community Advocates, who are highly-trained human service providers, are dispatched for non-emergent, non-criminal police calls. Cohort 2021.

Program Goals

With funding from the grant, MPACT seeks to strengthen its efforts to:

  • Divert people from the criminal justice system and the local emergency room
  • Enhance crisis services being provided in the community
