Madera County is at the geographic center of California, with a population of about 156,000.
The Madera County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) seeks to formalize a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program and training regimen based on the core elements of the Memphis Model. The project looks to bring key community partners (law enforcement, mental health providers, community-based organizations, families, and individuals) together to collaboratively plan and implement training and protocols that will result in improving the safety of both law enforcement officers and those with mental health conditions as well as redirect persons with mental health conditions from the judicial system to appropriate mental health treatment. Cohort 2021.
Program Goals
The grant funding allows MCSO to do the following:
- Provide Crisis Intervention Training to law enforcement
- Coordinate with community partners to provide the best possible service and outcomes for those in mental health crisis
