The Savannah-Chatham BOE Police Department is responsible for a jurisdiction that covers 632 square miles, 55 schools and 37,000 students while employing 73 sworn officers, 32 non-sworn officers, 69 crossing guard and 10 civilian employees.
The Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education aspires to enhance crisis intervention by proposing comprehensive Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training for all School Resource Officers (SROs). This initiative aims to ensure an efficient response to incidents necessitating crisis intervention within school premises. Moreover, the board intends to forge strategic partnerships with various local agencies, including the Department of Family and Children Services, local youth and family programs, law enforcement agencies across Chatham County. Additionally, collaborations between the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the Juvenile Court intends to bolster support and resources for addressing critical issues affecting the community’s youth. Program Goals
