Anchorage, Alaska is home to nearly 290,000 residents and earns its place as the state’s largest city by population.
The Anchorage Police Department (APD) adopts the mission “To Protect and Serve Our Community in the Most Professional and Compassionate Manner Possible.” APD works toward this mission by leveraging funding to enhance crisis intervention through co-response teams. While APD’s co-response team consists of a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Officer and a social worker, additional staffing contributes to increased public safety by expanding co-response team coverage and availability.
APD finds strong community support and increased buy-in for CIT-trained officers and co-responding clinicians. APD’s 6 co-responder teams bring a clinical perspective to different crimes and allows for follow-ups to be part of the regular workflow. Cohort 2022.
Program Goals
Through grant funding, APD aims to create an additional co-response team and to have 24-hour clinician coverage.
