City of Huntington, WV

Huntington is a city in the Huntington-Ashland metropolitan area and is located at the confluence of the Ohio and Guyandotte rivers with a population of 46,842.

The City of Huntington aims to establish a full-time Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program, enhance training for law enforcement officers, expand community partnerships, and implement alternative pathways for individuals in crisis. This initiative pairs mental health providers with law enforcement officers to ensure a comprehensive approach prioritizing de-escalation, empathy, and access to appropriate resources. The primary focus of the project is on developing a CIT Program that operates 24/7. By extending operational hours, individuals in crisis will have continuous access to immediate assistance, thus reducing the risk of harm and improving overall community safety. The project seeks to acquire a dedicated CIT vehicle equipped with the necessary tools and supplies to serve as a mobile command center for the CIT team, enabling them to respond swiftly and effectively to crisis situations.
