Cleveland is the county seat of Cuyahoga County, Ohio with a population of about 373,000.
Roots in CIT training can be traced back as far as 2004 within the Cleveland Police Department (CPD). With a renewed focus in 2020, CPD began implementing co-responder teams, seeking to have one CIT-trained officer per district with 12 total officers. Cohort 2021.
Program Goals
The grand funding allows CPD to expand its Co-Responder Teams by adding two additional crisis workers. The new teams plan to ensure city-wide coverage and provide special attention to locations that need additional resources and provide roaming services when a team is off duty.
