Detroit is the most populous city in Michigan and the largest U.S. city on the United States–Canada border with a population of about 640,000.

Detroit Police Department (DPP) seeks to improve its response to those in mental health crisis in partnership with the Detroit-Wayne Integrated Health Network.  First piloted in Detroit’s Downtown area beginning in 2020, with the support of grant funding, the Detroit Co-Response Partnership aims to provide this service City-wide by the end of 2023. Cohort 2021.

Program Goals

With funding from the grant, Detroit’s Co-Response Partnership takes a three-pronged intervention approach to addressing mental health crises.  The Partnership intends to implement the following:

  • Coordination of the services of a Crisis Intervention Team
  • Integrated Response system at Detroit’s 911 Call Center
  • Collaboration with Detroit Homeless Outreach Team (DHOT) to effectively address the needs of individuals in crisis
