Lower Providence Township in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, is located approximately 17 miles northwest of Philadelphia with a population was 25,625.
Like many communities, the Lower Providence Township Police Department (LPTPD) is experiencing an increase in the number of calls for service they receive to assist individuals in crisis. The department seeks to expand the social services liaison position to enhance the amount of time, quality, and assistance they can provide to these individuals. These needs encompass mental health, addiction, substance use, trauma, food insecurity, homelessness, aging, and adult services. Cohort 2023.
Program Goals
With the support of grant funding, the LPTPD plans to:
- Enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the LPTPD’s response to individuals in crisis
- Expand the scope and availability of social services provided to those in need within the community
- Address challenges faced by individuals, such as mental health issues, addiction, substance abuse, trauma, food insecurity, homelessness, aging, and adult services
- Improve the coordination and follow-up support for individuals accessing services, including through the acquisition of a dedicated vehicle for service-related needs and appointments
- Purchase of a vehicle address service needs and follow-up appointments
