Lincoln is the state capital of Nebraska and the county seat of Lancaster County with a population of 292,657.
The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) intends to implement a co-responder program. The goal of the program is to improve the outcomes of community members in crisis by decreasing escalation with effective crisis de-escalation, interventions, and connection to appropriate behavioral health services. Center Pointe Behavioral Health, as well as the Malone Center, serve as partners for the co-responder program. Center Pointe houses staff in LPD to respond with officers when dispatch determines a call for service is mental health related. The Malone Center conducts community conversations to ensure the underserved community is instrumental in the development of a co-responder program. The Lincoln Police Department contracts with the University of Nebraska for data evaluation. Cohort 2023.
Program Goals
With grant funding, the Lincoln Police Department plans to:
