With an enrollment of over 25,000 students, the University of West Georgia (UWG) prides itself on maintaining 100% of its officers trained in CIT.
To provide a county-wide crisis response team to those suffering from a mental health crisis, UWG seeks to employ additional officers and Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) to provide a 24/7, two-person unit that responds to mental health crisis calls. Cohort 2022.
Program Goals
With funding from the grant, UWG intends to develop a mobile crisis intervention team that services the UWG campus and surrounding area in collaboration with the Carroll County Mobile Crisis intervention team (MCIT). The MCIT consists of a sworn peace officer trained in but not limited to advanced Crisis Intervention, Advanced First Aid and Mental Health First Aid. The officer would team with a licensed professional counselor and respond to scenes of active crisis.
