Wyoming County is located in the southwestern part of West Virginia with a population of 21,382.
The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department plans to continue its partnership with the Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center, Sheriff’s Departments/Municipalities in surrounding counties, and the Thomas Jefferson Area CIT team by collaborating to provide CIT trainings for local police departments and to build a regional CIT training team. With the support of this award, the agency will host two 40-hour training courses over a 2-year period in the local area for officers. This initiative aims to ensure that 80% of their officers receive this highly sought-after training opportunity. Upon completion of the 40-hour CIT training, law enforcement officers will be equipped with the skills necessary to assist individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. Cohort 2023.
