A Requirement for Effective Policing
Community engagement is, quite simply, a requirement for effective policing in the 21st century.
For this reason, nearly every NCPI initiative involves engaging the community, even if the primary focus of the effort is on training, technical assistance, program management, or one of our other services.
Depending on an agency’s unique needs and circumstances, helping leaders develop and implement strategies to engage its community members—as partners in public safety—may be the sole purpose of an NCPI program.
Unique Needs and Custom Approaches
NCPI assists agencies in building capacity to engage community members and to incorporate supporting strategies into their public safety plans and operations.
This work is highly collaborative and tailored to meet the needs of the community itself. Initiatives may involve activities such as:
- building and sustaining community partnerships
- defining roles and priorities
- identifying community issues and developing resolutions
- implementing and evaluating community policing strategies and programs
NCPI works extensively with both public safety practitioners and community members—from start to finish, coordination to evaluation—offering facilitation of community forums, planning, subject matter expertise, and much more.
