NCPI announces three new awards, supporting public safety agencies nationwide

NCPI has begun working on three new national awards from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office).  They encompass a wide range of services and topics, delivered both in-person and online, and will enable more agencies throughout the nation to access critical training programs and receive direct support from NCPI.

Continuation and expansion of the CIT ASSIST Program

As the COPS Office national training and technical assistance provider serving agencies that have received funding to implement or enhance crisis intervention teams (CIT) since 2021, NCPI will expand its existing CIT ASSIST program. Agencies that have received 2024 COPS Office Promoting Access to Crisis Teams (PACT) funding are joining our established Community of Practice for peer-to-peer information sharing and problem solving, and training opportunities with the nation’s leading subject matter experts in crisis response. With this new funding and program expansion, NCPI proudly serves more than 100 agencies from Florida to Alaska, and everywhere in between, dedicated to improving outcomes for people experiencing mental health crises in the community.

Continuing to enhance the COPS Training Portal

NCPI has received funding to continue administering and enhancing the COPS Training Portal. Having grown exponentially in recent years, the Portal provides on-demand, no-cost access to dozens of web-based courses and resources for public safety practitioners nationwide. In fact, nearly half of all U.S. law enforcement agencies have accessed the Portal’s eLearning content. Additionally, this new award supports NCPI’s strategic partnerships with federal, state, local and tribal public safety organizations to expand the use of the Portal as a department-wide training tool. The award also includes the development of two new web-based training programs on critical public safety topics.
